LEARNING RESPONSE ASSESSMENT 4!

LEARNING RESPONSE ASSESSMENT 4:

Mr Halsey’s feedback:

WWW:

You start well and Q2 is excellent, close to top level. The challenge now is meeting that across the whole paper.

EBI:

Revise post colonialism- it’s only really Q3 holding you back, moser reference to text/ CSP.

One potential point:

Q1: costume barely visible for female models- flesh on display, heavily made up faces- constructed/ photoshopped image. Links to Kilbournes analysis of women in advertising

Q2: Armani advert does not support Gauntletts suggestion there has been a “decline of tradition” this s a very traditional representation of masculinity.

The representation of the male as hunter in a foreign jungle setting suggests a reference to the British empire and the colonial dominance of the 19th century.

Q3: cultural conviviality: refers to the real world multiculturalism and racial harmony that most people experience on a day to day basis. It is in stark contrast to the racial disharmony and binary view often presented by the media.

SBBIB looks yo construct an authentic representation of the black experience, which challenges gilroys ideas of othering and double consciousness.

Question 1:

I could of linked some theorists such as kilbournes and included some of the key media terminology such as the lighting and facial expressions and being able to link it back to other theories such as the female and male gaze.

  • stereotypical ideals of beauty
  • Black tie as a phallic object (mulvey)

Question 2:

  • Emphasis on traditional hegemonic masculinity perhaps a reaction against the gains made by women during the 1960s culminating in the equal pay ac 1970s.
  • Representations of women in the score advert reflects the changing role of women in the 1960s to some extent this is no longer the stereotypical 1950s housewife but still a reductive, exploitative, objectified representation of women.
  • Anchorage text: reflects male insecurities in a changing world

Question 3:

  • Racial essentialism: refers to the linking of a persons cultural and racial heritage to a place of national origin, also used to suggest that people from certain heritage are all the same and to make value judgement about people from certain backgrounds.
  • Social and ethnic hierarchies: the belief that certain groups or races are superior to others.
  • Cultural conviviality: the real world multi culturalism and racial harmony that most people experience on a day to day basis.
