LEARNERS RESPONSE ASSESSMENT 1!
LEARNERS RESPONSE ASSESSMENT 1:
Mr Halsey's feedback:
WWW:
This is a very strong first assessment with good knowledge and understanding shown across the four questions. There is also a clear potential to higher which is great to see- well-done!
EBI:
- Question 2 starts really well but needs a little more we will be discussing social and cultural contexts in class
- Question 3 needs genre theory to push it to the top level. Economic contexts are important too.
One potential point: Mark scheme
Question 1: Todorov: disequilibrium suggested by gun; character eyeline looking off-screen suggests danger or threat; tagline references ‘survival’; no hint of new equilibrium.
Question 2: Both products hint at the role society can play in shaping people’s lives which reflects a key theme of British media and culture. In the Ill Manors poster, the tagline for the film literally alludes to this (“Some environments...”)
Question 3: Neale “repetition and difference” – allows producers to evolve genre but maintain audience; Abercrombie “television producers set out to exploit genre conventions... economic sense” ... “Genres permit the creation and maintenance of a loyal audience.”
Question 4: Negotiated readings: an understanding and appreciation that many audiences will adopt somewhere between the two extremes – an acceptance of urban or hip-hop culture without perhaps identifying personally.
One potential point: Exemplar
Question 1: Including Todorov, Propps and Levi's theories
Question 2: Discussing and talking about British culture and society views
Question 3: Bringing more theories such as Abercrombie and Naele
Question 4: Including an introduction and conclusion
Media terminology:
- Revise and include genre theory
- Understand and justify social and cultural contexts
- Reseach and revise economic contexts
- Avoid repeating the same point
- Analyse and understand figures and quotes
Weakest question: QUESTION 2
- To compare and explain both figures instead of explaining it one by one
- To include my own knowledge of British value
- Write more about social and cultural contexts as more points can gain more marks
- Include media terminology and examples
- Talk about the structural society views as a part of 'social contexts'
