AUDIENCE THEORY 1!
AUDIENCE THEORY 1:
Hypodermic model theory:
Read this Mail Online article about the effects of videogames. How does this article link to the hypodermic needle model?
The hypodermic needle model suggests that the media can inject information in us that can be very dangerous. This article shows that playing violent video games for just 20 minutes a day can encourage aggressive behaviour. This links with the hypodermic model because it shows that just by playing violent video games it can cause long term effects by "injecting" the violent behaviour that is in the game to children in real life.
How does coverage of the Talk hacking case (see Daily Mail front page below) link to the hypodermic needle model? Why might someone criticise this front page?
The daily mail presents the fact that the young boy that has an addiction of a violent game and never leaves his room is the medias fault, because if the boy commits a crime like this then it's because he has been affected him dangerously which is why he committed a crime like this although some people may criticise that it is because the parents did not raise him correctly and didn't give him more of the socialising life that happens everyday
What do you think of the hypodermic needle theory? Do audiences believe everything they see in the media?
I think the hypodermic theory is true to an extent because I believe that only some audience believe what they see is true, especially emotionally when they see an influencer that looks really good, or the influencer shows a really good ongoing life many audiences tend to believe it and feel low because its different to theirs. However other audiences will most definitely not believe something that doesn't look right.
Two step flow model:
Use and Gratifications theory:
For each of the four categories, write about one media text (e.g., film, TV programme, newspaper etc.) that fits that particular audience use or pleasure. Make sure you explain WHY it fits the category and use images or clips to illustrate your points.
Dependency theory:
Do you agree that audiences have become dependent on the media? What evidence or examples can you provide to support your view?
I agree that the audience have become very dependent on the media for an example the weather app, that people rely on, on a day-to-day basis even though the accuracy of the app is not even 100% accurate.
How has the growth of new and digital technology in the last 15 years changed people's dependency on the media? Is this a new problem?
The growth of new digital technology has changed in the last 15 years, I believe this because people are becoming more dependent on their phone and believe that without their phone, they have nothing to do. Even when it comes to socialising in person people would at one point all be using phones instead of talking to each other. It has become a problem because let's say for an example if Spotify is not working people will not go gym because their form of doing their activities is by listening to music.
Reflecting on your own media use, how does your media consumption impact on your emotions? Does the media have an overall positive or negative impact on your health and wellbeing? Why?
The media has caused a massive impact on me because I believe that social life can get very draining and self-demotivating as it puts me off of doing my work and makes me want to procrastinate more. For me, looking at posts and news that may relate to me or has related to me in the past can put me a little down. TikTok has caused a positive and negative impact because it tells me the latest "news" which keeps me updated and bad because it keeps me from doing my work.
